“Grigore T. Popa” University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Iași (UMF), through “Prof. Ostin C. Mungiu” Advanced Research and Development Center in Experimental Medicine – CEMEX, is a key partner in the DADAP project – Digitizing and Automating the Diagnostic Psychiatric Assessment Process, a research initiative funded by the European Union under the Horizon 2020 program – THCS (Transforming Health and Care Systems).
With a total budget of €1,216,930, including €199,200 allocated to UMF Iași, the project runs from 01.06.2024 to 31.05.2027 and aims to develop a digital platform based on artificial intelligence algorithms to automate and improve the accuracy of psychiatric assessments for children and adolescents, reducing human error and shortening diagnostic times.
The project also seeks to achieve several impact goals aligned with the United Nations’ Agenda 2030, such as improving access to healthcare and reducing waiting times, lowering work-related stress for healthcare professionals, enabling less subjective and less biased diagnosis, ensuring equal access to efficient diagnostics regardless of social status or location, and reducing the need for travel.
“The DADAP project represents a major leap in how we approach psychiatric evaluations for children and adolescents. It is proof of technology’s power to revolutionize the healthcare sector,” said Dr. Tomas Olsson, project coordinator from RISE, Sweden.
Prof. Dr. Petru-Romeo Dobrin, coordinator of the UMF Iași team, added:
“I am proud to be part of such a transformative project. The potential impact of DADAP on the mental health of children and adolescents in Romania and beyond is tremendous. Our team is fully committed to contributing to the development of a system that will significantly improve the diagnostic process for young patients.”
A Leading European Consortium, One Shared Mission
The project brings together renowned institutions from several European countries: Sweden (RISE Research Institutes of Sweden AB and Region Västmanland), Norway (Simula Metropolitan Center for Digital Engineering AS), Romania (UMF Iași – CEMEX), and Spain (Fundación para la Investigación de Málaga en Biomedicina y Salud – FIMABIS / Instituto de Investigación Biomédica de Málaga y Plataforma en Nanomedicina – IBIMA Plataforma BIONAND).
Together, these centers contribute expertise in the development and testing of machine learning algorithms, ensuring compliance with the highest clinical standards.
